SCRIPTURE READING FOR
TODAY 1 Pet 5:8 AMP

8 Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour.

The Word of God To Meditate On Today
1 Pet 5:8 AMP “Stay Awake: The Lion is on the Prowl”

The Apostle Peter warns believers to “Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour.” (1 Pet. 5:8 AMP).

This is a call to spiritual alertness. Just like a watchman on a city wall stays awake to detect danger before it strikes, Believers must remain spiritually vigilant. Samson lost his strength because he slept on Delilah’s lap (Judges 16:19–20), but Joseph overcame temptation because he stayed awake to God’s presence (Gen. 39:7–9). Jesus Himself told His disciples in Gethsemane, “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation” (Matt. 26:41).

Being alert is not about living in fear, but about standing firm in faith, resisting the devil, and walking in God’s victory.

19 Then she lulled him to sleep on her knees, and called for a man and had him shave off the seven locks of his head. Then she began to torment him, and his strength left him.
--
20 And she said, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” So he awoke from his sleep, and said, “I will go out as before, at other times, and shake myself free!” But he did not know that the LORD had departed from him.

7 And it came to pass after these things that his master’s wife cast longing eyes on Joseph, and she said, “Lie with me.”
--
8 But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Look, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand.
--
9 There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”

41 Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Personal Supplication
Prayer Points:
Father, help me to be spiritually sober and alert at all times, not ignorant of the devil’s schemes, in Jesus’ name.
(2 Cor. 2:11 – “so that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs.”)
--
Father, empower me with the discipline of Joseph to resist every temptation and escape the traps of the enemy, in Jesus’ name.
(Gen. 39:9 – “How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”)
--
Father, open my spiritual eyes like Elisha’s servant, to see the greater army of God that surrounds me, in Jesus’ name.
(2 Kings 6:17 – “And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw.”)
--
Father, strengthen me to resist the devil steadfastly in faith like Jesus in the wilderness, in Jesus’ name.
(Matt. 4:10 – “Away with you, Satan! For it is written…”)
--
Father, grant me the grace to watch and pray like Nehemiah’s builders, alert on the wall, until every assignment You gave me is completed, in Jesus’ name.
(Neh. 4:17 – “Those who built… with one hand they worked at construction, and with the other held a weapon.”)

JESUS IS LORD!
