I’ll Find a Way is a powerful short documentary (26 minutes) produced in 1977 by National Film Board of Canada

It tells the story of Nadia DeFranco, a 9-year-old girl living with spina bifida, and her journey to attend a regular school despite the physical challenges and societal barriers she faces.

The film presents Nadia’s daily life—going to school, working with therapists, interacting with family, and confronting teasing from peers—with honesty and dignity.

It’s clear from the beginning: she’s not asking for sympathy—she just wants to live, learn, and be part of her community.

While chronicling the logistical and emotional hurdles Nadia faces, the film also becomes a larger statement about accessibility, inclusion, and the strength of human spirit. It was awarded an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film in 1978.
