In the nineteen-nineties, he led the development of CERNET – the China Education and Research Network – which became a critical digital backbone for universities and research institutes across the nation. His work has been crucial for the transition from IPv4 to the newer IPv6 protocol in China, ensuring the country has enough digital addresses for its vast and growing online population.
