Hate is a scourge in society, but the Liberal government's so-called anti-hate Bill C-9 cloaks dangerous legal changes in good intentions. The parts of the bill most people would find sympathetic just criminalize things that are already illegal.

The only things Bill C-9 changes are removing a crucial safeguard against overzealous and politically charged hate prosecutions and, concerningly, a new definition of "hate" that lowers the threshold for charging someone for their thinking. MP Andrew Lawton spoke to the bill in the House of Commons.
