Suspected Explosive Destroyed at TPUSA Event

At a rare all-hands summit at Marine Corps Base Quantico, President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth addressed hundreds of U.S. generals and admirals. The speeches marked a significant moment in Trump’s push to reshape the U.S. armed forces.

Hegseth, referred to symbolically as “Secretary of War,” called for an end to policies he described as “woke,” including diversity, equity, and inclusion offices, gender-related initiatives, and special observances like identity months. He emphasized stricter standards, saying there would be “no more beards, long hair, or overweight personnel,” and urged those unwilling to follow the new direction to “resign.”

President Trump told military leaders the armed forces were “reawakening the warrior spirit” and pledged to make the military “stronger, tougher, faster, and fiercer.” He criticized past leadership, called for merit-based promotions, and floated the idea of using high-crime U.S. cities as military training grounds. Trump also warned of an “enemy within,” referring to domestic political opponents and dissenters, and said military force could be used inside the U.S. if needed.

The same week, security concerns intensified when a suspicious device was discovered at Utah State University just hours before a Turning Point USA event—the first in the state since the assassination of TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk earlier in September. A bomb squad carried out a controlled detonation of the device near the Old Main building. While the device was deemed non-explosive, the campus was evacuated, and heightened security measures were put in place. The event continued as scheduled with speakers including Sen. Mike Lee, Gov. Spencer Cox, Rep. Andy Biggs, and former Rep. Jason Chaffetz. No injuries were reported, and authorities have not released further details about the device’s origin.
