Intertextuality sounds like one of those big theological terms which no normal person uses, but it is really a simple idea. It describes the relationship between texts. In biblical studies it looks at how the various books in the Bible relate to one another. You will often hear me say, "The biblical authors will; quote, paraphrase, make allusions to, or echo earlier revelation and then bring that context forward to make a new theological point." This is the writer of one book or letter relating what he is writing to another book or letter in the Bible. That is intertextuality.
