A conversation about racism dominated Wednesday night's Cincinnati City Council meeting.

The Black Agenda Cincinnati called on community members to attend the meeting and voice concerns they have about systemic racism and how city leadership addresses racism issues in Cincinnati. Dozens answered the call, packing City Council chambers. The public comments section of the meeting was standing room only.

Another man accused Mayor John Cranley of contributing to the systemic racism in the city.

"There are over 18 black leaders that you have attacked in your short tenure as mayor, creating racial hostility in our community, and it must stop," he said.

The deep-rooted tension overflowed to the mic as one member of the black community after another addressed the council.

"The black neighborhoods are under attack right now because of gentrification," a Cincinnati woman said.

One of the hot-button issues Wednesday was an institutional racism study that would help city leaders identify disparities that exist in the city, policies that contribute to the disparities and possible changes that need to happen.

The City Council approved the study, but it was never funded. Now there is a push to secure funding.
