Macron doesn’t love the EU’s drone wall idea

Ursula von der Leyen’s proposal for a “drone wall” to protect Europe from Russia faces skepticism from France and Germany.

French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized the need for advanced warning systems, long-range strike capabilities, and air defense rather than a physical drone barrier, while German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said drone defense is important but “not by a drone wall.”

The debate highlights geographic divisions in Europe, with front-line nations like Latvia and Lithuania supporting the plan, while southern European leaders stress broader continental defense, Politico has reported.

Macron also noted nuclear deterrence and ongoing development of drone and counter-drone capabilities as priorities.
