In this video, you will see the Assembly Elections Committee reject amendments to one of the bills in the redistricting package that had only been introduced 24 hours earlier.

When members attempted to introduce amendments, the chair laughed and dismissed them, saying “because I said so.” When questioned further on why she refused to accept them, a special interest person representing the bill’s author openly admitted, “I don’t want to read them because they won’t make this bill better.”

Even as members cited procedural and legal reasons for their amendments, their microphones were repeatedly cut off preventing the public from hearing their arguments and keeping it off the official record.

These officials shut down the amendments without even reading them, proving they wanted to pass the bill without consideration, without debate, and without transparency.
