The Small Act of Hilde Back

Today I tell the story of a significant act of philanthropic support that began in 2002. A Swedish woman named Hilde Back sponsored the education of a young Kenyan student, Chris Mburu, through modest monthly contributions. Years later, Mburu, having become a human rights lawyer and attended Harvard, sought out Back to express his profound gratitude for the support that transformed his life. In tribute to her kindness, Mburu established the Hilde Back Education Fund to provide similar opportunities for other disadvantaged Kenyan students. This inspiring narrative about the ripple effect of compassion was later featured in the 2010 documentary A Small Act.
