Thousands march in Greece against labor law changes

Thousands marched through Athens on Wednesday during a general strike that disrupted ferries, public transport, schools, hospitals, and other services across Greece.

Protesters rallied against changes to labor laws allowing overtime shifts of up to 13 hours and a maximum of 48 hours per week, arguing the new rules make workers vulnerable to exploitation.

Many demonstrators also waved Palestinian flags and voiced opposition to the war in Gaza.

Unions representing civil servants and private sector workers called for the strike, demanding a 37½-hour workweek and the reinstatement of collective bargaining agreements, the Associated Press has reported.

The General Confederation of Workers of Greece condemned the extended shifts, saying exhaustion should not be considered “development” and human tolerance has limits.
