When leaders refused to pick a side… the CIA made the choice for them.

In the Cold War chess game, neutrality was unacceptable.
🇨🇩 Patrice Lumumba, Congo’s first democratically elected leader, was seen as a potential Soviet ally. President Eisenhower told CIA Director Allen Dulles he “had to be eliminated.”

☠️ What followed was a dark playbook of poisoned toothpaste, assassins, and coup plots. Lumumba was eventually captured by Western-backed rivals and executed — plunging Congo into decades of chaos.

🇨🇱 But the CIA’s regime-change machine didn’t stop there. In Chile (1970), the people elected Salvador Allende, a Marxist president. Washington wasn’t having it. Nixon ordered the CIA to “make the economy scream.”
💵 Millions flowed into opposition groups. Strikes were orchestrated. Media outlets flooded the airwaves with anti-Allende propaganda.

📆 On September 11, 1973, the Chilean military — emboldened and supported by CIA backing — overthrew Allende’s government.
He died in the presidential palace.
👤 Augusto Pinochet’s brutal dictatorship followed — torturing and killing thousands.

Washington called it “freedom.” Chileans called it a nightmare.

💣 And this was just the beginning. The era of the proxy war was born — a strategy where America never had to fire a shot… because someone else would do it for them. 🕵️‍♂️
