The government’s closed, but don’t be misled,
The checks still roll, the lights aren’t dead.
Parks and passports pause a spell,
But Social Security hums just as well.
It’s “discretionary” that hits the wall—
Services pause, but payments call.

They’ll say it’s chaos, say it’s doom,
But the truth cuts sharper through the gloom.
Every Republican stood up tall—
Save Rand Paul, who votes ‘no’ to all.
Yet even if he’d changed his say,
Democrats still had to pave the way.

Five votes they needed, not one came through,
Schumer’s hand—yeah, it’s painted blue.
So when you feel the squeeze or strain,
Remember who shut down the train.

This bloated beast could use the test.
The “non-essentials” head for home—
Seems like the right place to start the comb.

"Non-essential." Hmm, ... seems to me like an ideal and logical place for President Trump to start truly downsizing,— doesn't it?
