Somalia’s security forces have ended a six-hour siege by al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab at a high-security prison in Mogadishu. The government confirms all seven attackers were neutralised and no prisoners escaped. Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility, saying the attack aimed to free “all Muslim prisoners.” The incident highlights the ongoing threat posed by the group, which continues to carry out suicide bombings, ambushes, and attacks on military installations, challenging Somalia’s security forces despite years of counterterrorism efforts.
