Enemies of Soul Winning
Text: Matthew 23

Objective: that the brethren may identify what may prevent many people saved and avoid it to fulfill the main goal of the church
Intro:
Define – soulwinning/salvation, enemy, war, battle/s
Reflect on goals and attainments of church on this effort so far

Some of the enemies of soulwinning/gospel/salvation? (and way to defeat them)
1. Religious Phonies - v.2 – Scribes and Pharisees
a. they will be repeatedly (8x) called hypocrites in this chapter
b. focus on position – ‘Moses seat’
c. cults and false religions
d. learn/study how to deal with them, their lies and bad influence
i. e.g. the confusion they cause – vv. 3-7
2. Hypocrisy - v.5 - ‘to be seen of men’
a. Avoid it – be true/truthful to all
3. Self Love – Pride – vv.6-12
a. Don’t look at self too highly – each soul is more important than self worth
4. Crab Mentality – v.13
a. Don’t follow after this stupid and childish attitude
5. Pretense – specially for filthy lucre sake – v.14 - Titus 1:11
a. Trust the Lord for financial provisions – focus on task ahead
6. Big, Great and Hard but is ultimately Worthless works – v.15
a. Work and utilize what the Lord gives you at the moment
7. Materialism – vv. 16-23
a. How much would you want as a salary for soulwinning?
b. Focus on the heavenly rewards rather.
8. Misappropriation – v.24
a. Apply correct measurement – consider also that spiritual things trump carnal things
9. Outwardly Shallow Righteousness – vv. 25-28
a. Go deep in the Faith and in the word of God – inward verses
10. Nefarious Gaslighting and Brainwashing – vv.29-38
a. Who are the true Israel/Jews? Their “fathers”?
b. Don’t hesitate to bring up the reality of hell – v.33
c. Associate with the true Sons and Servants of God
11. Finale – there are many enemies – but most can and should repent and turn to God – v. 39

Finale: Philippians 3:18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:

Message/conclusion:
Let us identify what may prevent many people saved and avoid it to fulfill the main goal of the church
