The Assembly and Preparation of a 5 L Vacuum Desiccator.

*Desiccator is a vessel made of thick glass or (less often) plastic in which a certain humidity is maintained (usually close to zero).
*Desiccators are used for drying of very hygroscopic compounds at room temperature and used to prevent substances saturation with an indefinite amount of water from the air (for example, a test samples for gravimetric analysis).
*For some purposes, it is possible to create a vacuum inside the desiccator or fill it with an inert gas.
All parts of the desiccator have to be washed, dried and degreased.
A thick vacuum silicone lubricant is applied to the surface of the ground glass flange connection.
The lubricant is distributed evenly over the surface of the joint.
A container with a desiccant is placed at the bottom of the desiccator (NaOH in the video).
