In January of 2025, Los Angeles was hit with devastating fires in the Pacific Palisades, Malibu and Eaton Canyon. Thirty-one people died in the fires and tens of thousands of buildings mostly homes were totally destroyed. Local politicians failed to prevent catastrophic losses of both life and property.

Tonia Arey recognized the broad failures of government and in particular her local Board of Supervisor member Lindsey Horvath. Horvath is a very powerful political figure with two million constituents. Supervisor Horvath sensitive to the criticism, compounded these failures by supporting the dumping of toxic waste from these fires into two dumps, Calabasas and Sunshine Canyon, that were not rated to accept toxic waste generated from these fires.

As these communities raised health concerns Supervisor Horvath dismissed these concerns and ultimately refused to talk to concerned community members. We will talk with Tonia about her run to unseat Supervisor Horvath.
