Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles Two-Player Playthrough - Part 1
This is part 1 of my capture of me and a friend playing through Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles for the Wii. This was recorded directly from my Wii (not the Wii U). I'm player one and Peter is player two. We're playing on normal difficulty.
Although I enjoyed light gun games such as Link's Crossbow Training and had played several Resident Evil games on the GameCube, I never thought about picking up the Resident Evil light gun games for the Wii. For whatever reason, the thought never crossed my mind.
However, back in 2009 my friend Peter began recommending that I get Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles because apparently it was a ton of fun. Some time shortly before Christmas of that year, I decided to get the game, so I headed off to Best Buy to do so.
Unfortunately, Best Buy was no longer carrying copies of the game, but the sequel, Darkside Chronicles, had just come out. Based on Peter's recommendation, I picked up Darkside Chronicles for $50 and proceeded to play through the entire game with Peter. It was a blast. Darkside Chronicles was so much fun that I beat it about three or four times with my friends Peter and Drew. It quickly became my favorite light gun game that I had ever played. Peter later picked up his own Wii Zapper and a copy of The House of the Dead: Overkill because we had so much fun with Darkside Chronicles. However, Peter quickly returned the House of Dead because it had almost no replay value.
It wasn't until 2011 that I finally picked up The Umbrella Chronicles by getting a cheap (but new) copy off of Amazon.com. Peter and I then proceeded to play through that game as well. Although Umbrella Chronicles was a lot of fun and had a much better camera than Darkside Chronicles, it had a few flaws which I felt made the game less enjoyable than its sequel.
Umbrella Chronicles used a shared life bar and applied herbs as soon as you picked them up, making the game less balanced than Darkside Chronicles. It also featured a brutal quick time event that would kill you instantly if you messed up and send you right back to the last check point. I found that feature in particular to be absolute bullshit. There were also some missions that could only be completed in single-player mode, which I found to be rather dumb.
Nonetheless, Umbrella Chronicles is still a really fun cooperative game, as well as an excellent light gun shooter. Since certain missions in this game can only be completed with a single player, I'll be doing those missions myself later in the playthrough. However, Peter will be joining me for all of the cooperative missions.
In this first part we started a new save file and completed the mission "Train Derailment 1."
Recorded with the Hauppauge HD PVR and the Wii's component cables at 60 frames per second.
We're using Wii Zappers.
