After showing - to my own satisfaction at least - that a single coil flynn device would run i went back to the modelling software and shifted the coil to the centre of the device. Two things are worth noticing - the device only operates in the range of 150 - 250 milliamps at 6 volts - above this and saturation of the yoke takes place, and secondly, with the coil place centrally you need to put spacers in between the centre coil and the yoke to stop the permenant magnets finding an alternative flux path.
