5 Shot Zero Is Wrong?? Let's Test the 20 Shot Zero Group Concept!

Well, I dove into a rabbit hole. It seems the new consensus is that 5 shots to zero a rifle is no longer the way to do it. 20 shot minimum is what Hornady recommends. Let's test this concept!!

I thought I may need to adjust my velocity by truing my Kestrel after the last match. Watched some videos on the idea and came across the Hornady podcast where they say that is not the way to fix problems! It would only be applicable to that day's exact wind and environmental conditions. So, they talk about having a good, true zero and using their app to account for actual drag on projectiles instead of a BC value. The BC works for most conditions, but fine tuning for precision long range needs some better numbers, apparently!
I decided that I want to make sure I have a good zero before I make any other mistakes. Doing their 20 shot recommendation, I realized that I was a little low. Needed to come up 0.1 mil on my zero setting. Then back at 500 yards, I got all hits except for 1 rushed shot and 1 with a bad projectile I wanted to see what would happen.
So, I will test a little more this coming weekend, but it seems there is some value in spending the time to make a good, large group and set your zero correctly from that data.
I want to compare the info in the Hornady app's calculator with my Kestrel some more, but I think it will be close enough. If needed, I will buy their 4DOF system in the app, but I want to see what I can do with a better zero and my Kestrel before going in a new direction.
Let me know what you think of this idea and test here. Should I get deeper into the Hornady app and show some things I notice in it compared to my Kestrel data? Let me know what you want to see me test next!

Thank you for watching and spending some time with me. I appreciate your time every video! If you want to help out some, check the links below and if you use any of these items, go ahead and use my discounts and links to save some money and help me out as well.
Have a great rest of your day and an awesome weekend!

This is a private range. All shooting is done in a safe, controlled environment with no people or dwellings within miles to be at risk.
