Jeremiah’s Divine Call and Prophetic Mission During Josiah’s Reign.
Jeremiah, son of Hilkiah, began his prophetic ministry during King Josiah's reign, around Josiah's 13th year, continuing through the reigns of subsequent kings until Jerusalem's captivity. Josiah's revival was sparked by rediscovering the Book of the Law, emphasizing that revivals come from God's Word, not men. Jeremiah was called by God before birth and ordained as a prophet to deliver God's message to the nations, despite feeling young and unprepared. God assured him of His presence and authority, promising to put His words in Jeremiah's mouth. Jeremiah's role was to warn Judah of impending judgment from the north (Babylon) and to be a spiritual alarm to awaken the people. Though his message would be rejected and he would face opposition, God promised deliverance. The text stresses the importance of preaching God's Word with authority and confidence, as Jeremiah did, rather than personal ideas or liberal theology.
