How to build your own Vand Der Graff Generator - Wiring the motor 1

The motor controls for the generator are quite simple and use a double pole isolation switch and a light circuit dimmer switch for speed control - these are easy to get hold of from your local do it yourself store and easy to wire up - the main thing to remember is the colour code of the wires. In the UK the live wire is brown and the neutral wire is blue. After that the rest is easy it is colour to colour. The thing to remember about the dimmer switch is that it switches the live - so there is a live in and a live out. The live in comes from the isolation switch and goes to the common connection on the back of the switch and the live out connects to the L1 terminal and goes to the motor. The motor also had a starter capacitor when you pulled it apart. You have to refit this now. It connects to the out side of the isolation switch. The in side of the isolation switch connects to the cable going to the wall socket. This is not too demanding but if you have any doubt - DON'T DO IT - ask someone who knows to wire it up for you.
