How to build a Van Der Graaf Generator 9 - the discharge rod

Here we are starting to put the generator together. The motor has been fixed in place on it's sliding bed and the bottom roller assembly has been attached - making sure the two pulleys are in line the top roller has been fixed in place and i have made a discharge rod. The rod is simply a length of 20mm plastic pipe with a rubber tape handle and a chrome doorknob glued to the top. The doorknob has been soldered to a piece of pvc insulted .75mm stranded two core wire. Both cores have been soldered in place and later i will attach these to an earthing block.
