Peace In Gaza?

President Donald Trump announced the first stage of his 20-point Middle East peace initiative, which includes a temporary ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Under the agreement, Hamas will release 20 Israeli hostages and return the remains of others, while Israel will free hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. Israeli forces are set to withdraw from parts of Gaza, and 400 aid trucks will be allowed in over the next five days. The plan also includes international oversight led by Trump and former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair for Gaza’s reconstruction and governance.

Celebrations broke out in Israel and Gaza as families welcomed the exchanges, though ongoing airstrikes in some Gaza suburbs raise questions about the truce’s stability. Leaders such as UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron praised the deal as a moment of relief and hope.

In the U.S., Trump’s Justice Department also indicted New York Attorney General Letitia James for alleged mortgage fraud involving a Virginia property. Prosecutors say she misrepresented the property as a secondary residence to secure lower rates, saving nearly $19,000. James, who previously led a civil fraud case against Trump resulting in hundreds of millions in penalties, called the indictment baseless and politically motivated. Supporters of Trump say the case shows accountability, while critics argue it reflects the weaponization of the justice system.
