These rituals, meant to symbolically “reverse” Christian baptism, are being promoted as acts of “spiritual liberation” or rejection of organized religion. However, for millions of believers, they represent nothing less than a mockery of Christ and the Christian faith.

In states like California, New York, and Oregon, organizers have incorporated these performances into Pride festivals, using hair dryers, saltwater, or even smoke to “wash away” the effects of baptism. Participants are led by self-proclaimed secular leaders or “humanist priests” who recite phrases like “I renounce the guilt imposed by religion.” Videos of these ceremonies have circulated widely, sparking outrage among Christian communities nationwide.

Critics argue that these are not harmless personal expressions but deliberate acts of anti-Christian provocation. Reverend Franklin Graham remarked that this is “not about finding spiritual authenticity—it’s about a cultural agenda meant to ridicule Christ and those who follow Him.” Others see it as another sign of the growing hostility toward Christianity in modern America.
