Burhanpur (Madhya Pradesh): In a disturbing revelation, CCTV footage from the Khaknar Community Health Centre in Burhanpur district has exposed a year-old incident in which a man was seen molesting the body of a woman kept for post-mortem.

Police identified the accused as Nilesh Bhilala (25), a resident of Tangiyapat village in Bhouraghat area, who has now been arrested.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Antar Singh Kanesh, the footage surfaced online recently, following which Dr. Adya Dawar, a medical officer at the centre, filed a written complaint on October 7, 2025.

A preliminary probe revealed that the shocking act occurred on April 18, 2024, around 6:45 am. Based on the complaint, the Khaknar Police registered a case under Section 297 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for the insult to human corpses.

Acting under the directions of Superintendent of Police Devendra Patidar and Sub-Divisional Officer (Police) Nirbhay Singh Alawa, a team led by Station House Officer Abhishek Jadhav tracked down the accused. During interrogation, Bhilala confessed to the crime and was produced before a local court in Burhanpur.

Officials said the investigation is ongoing to determine how the accused gained access to the post-mortem section of the health centre.

The incident has triggered public outrage and renewed questions about security lapses and moral decay in sensitive medical facilities.
