Rodenticide Bait Station Designs Most Attractive to Invading Norway Rats

Stephen M. Vantassel, host of the Wildlife Control Consultant podcast, summarizes the research by E.B. Spurr, C.E. O’Connor, G.A. Morriss, and J. Turner in their article Bait Station Preferences of Norway Rats published in 2006 by Landcare Research, Lincoln, New Zealand. Dept of Conservation, NZ. This research investigated four different bait station designs to see which one was most attractive to brown rats (Rattus norvegicus) that were invading a new area. Interestingly the wooden bait station and the pipe bait station were the most attractive.
