The Difference Between the Old and New Testaments

Christians generally understand that the Old Testament remains God’s Word and reveals His character and moral standards. The New Testament shows how Jesus fulfilled the Old Covenant and established a New Covenant, open to all people. Therefore, believers are not “under the law” (Romans 6:14), meaning they are not bound to follow the ceremonial and civil laws given specifically to ancient Israel (like food laws, temple sacrifices, or certain ritual practices). However, the moral principles (e.g., honesty, justice, compassion, sexual purity, love for God and neighbor) continue, since they reflect God’s nature … which doesn’t change. There are those who say we need to follow the Torah, the first five Books of the Bible written by Moses, along with our belief in Jesus. Let’s talk about that.
