What Does the Quran Teach About Itself as a Living Miracle

Assalamu Alaikum sisters, brothers, friends and elders:
We welcome you to Statement Number 57 in our series of statements. We will explain in it that: (What Does the Quran Teach About Itself as a Living Miracle ), our aim is to learn and teach from the Quran and Sunnah, reflect on history and seek solutions to problems with divine guidance.

The Quran is the greatest miracle bestowed upon Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and it stands as a living and eternal sign of Allah’s guidance for humanity. Unlike miracles of past prophets that were witnessed only by specific communities and limited by time, the Quran continues to demonstrate its miraculous nature across generations, cultures, and lands. It is not a relic of history but a living miracle that addresses the human mind, soul, and heart with unmatched eloquence, guidance, and truth. The Quran itself declares its miraculous qualities and invites mankind to reflect upon them.

One of the first aspects that the Quran highlights is its divine origin. In Surah An-Nisa verse 82, Allah says, Do they not reflect upon the Quran? If it had been from anyone other than Allah, they would have found within it much contradiction. This verse points to the perfection and consistency of the Quran, a book revealed over twenty-three years in different situations, yet free from error or contradiction. Its harmony across topics of theology, law, morality, history, and prophecy testifies to its divine source and miraculous nature.

The Quran also challenges mankind to produce something like it, a challenge that has remained unanswered for more than fourteen centuries. In Surah Al-Baqarah verse 23, Allah declares, And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down upon Our Servant, then produce a surah like it and call upon your witnesses other than Allah, if you should be truthful. Despite the unmatched mastery of Arabic poets and linguists at the time of revelation, none could respond to this challenge. This unfulfilled challenge continues today, proving that the Quran is beyond human capability and is indeed the word of Allah.

Another miraculous aspect of the Quran is its preservation. While earlier scriptures were altered or lost over time, the Quran has been preserved in its original language without addition or loss. Allah Himself guarantees this in Surah Al-Hijr verse 9, Indeed, it is We who sent down the Quran and indeed, We will be its guardian. From the earliest manuscripts to the millions who have memorized it word for word, the Quran stands unique as a perfectly preserved revelation, untouched by human corruption. This preservation itself is a miracle that continues to unfold before the eyes of humanity.

The Quran also speaks to the hearts and souls of people, guiding them towards truth and righteousness. In Surah Al-Isra verse 9, Allah says, Indeed, this Quran guides to that which is most upright and gives good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a great reward. Its guidance is not limited to laws or rituals; it addresses human emotions, moral struggles, and spiritual needs. This timeless relevance is one of the ways the Quran manifests its miraculous nature, as every generation finds its guidance applicable and fresh.

Furthermore, the Quran contains knowledge that was unknown at the time of its revelation. In Surah Al-Anbiya verse 30, Allah says, Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe? This verse reflects a reality about the origins of the universe and the essential role of water in life, truths that modern science has affirmed centuries later. While the Quran is not a science textbook, its accurate references to natural phenomena that were unknown to humans at that time point to its divine origin.

The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, himself declared the Quran as his greatest miracle. In Sahih al-Bukhari Hadith number 4981, the Prophet said, Every prophet was given miracles because of which people believed, but what I have been given is the divine inspiration which Allah has revealed to me. So I hope that my followers will be more numerous on the Day of Judgment. This Hadith shows that the Quran is the central and enduring miracle of Islam, surpassing the temporary signs given to earlier prophets.

The Quran also testifies to its own role as a healing and mercy for believers. In Surah Al-Isra verse 82, Allah says, And We send down of the Quran that which is healing and mercy for the believers, but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss. This healing is both spiritual and emotional, as the Quran brings peace to the hearts of those who recite it and act upon it. Many people across history and even today find that the Quran transforms their lives, bringing them from darkness into light, which is itself a sign of its living miraculous power.

The Quran’s miraculous impact is also seen in its ability to transform entire societies. The Arabs before Islam were divided, involved in tribal wars, and immersed in ignorance and idol worship. Within a short span of time, through the guidance of the Quran, they became a united community leading the world in knowledge, justice, and spirituality. This transformation was not due to wealth or force but through the power of the Quranic message. Such a change in human character and society is a miracle that continues to inspire.

In Surah Fussilat verse 53, Allah declares, We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth. This verse indicates that the Quran’s miraculous signs are not limited to its words but are continuously revealed in the universe and in the hearts of people. As science advances and human understanding grows, the signs of the Quran continue to unfold, proving that it is indeed the truth from Allah.

In conclusion, the Quran teaches that it is a living miracle, unmatched in eloquence, preserved from corruption, filled with guidance, and relevant for all times. It challenges mankind, comforts the soul, guides societies, and confirms truths that were unknown to earlier generations. For Muslims, the Quran is not merely a book to be recited but a divine miracle to be lived by, studied, and spread. Its light continues to shine as a timeless sign that Allah has never left humanity without guidance. Truly, the Quran remains the everlasting miracle that speaks to every age until the Day of Judgment.

We conclude today's discussion with this humble supplication: O Allah, purify our hearts, accept our deeds, forgive our sins, and include us among Your grateful servants. Amen
