Indicted New York Attorney General Letitia James is reportedly housing her grandniece, Nakia Thompson, at her three-bedroom Norfolk, Virginia home, where Thompson has lived with her three children since 2020. Thompson is officially classified by Forsyth County, North Carolina, as an “absconder” — a fugitive status tied to her failure to complete probation after misdemeanor convictions for assault, battery and trespassing. According to state officials, because her offenses are low level, Thompson is “non-extraditable,” meaning she can only be arrested if found in North Carolina. Despite the federal indictment looming over James, there’s no indication yet that local Virginia or North Carolina authorities have taken action. The arrangement raises fresh scrutiny as James claims the Virginian property was misused contrary to its mortgage terms.
