People of questionable character often believe that the United States is ruled by a king, a concept that is not true. They rally under banners proclaiming resistance to this invisible monarch, demanding the deposition of a ruler who exists solely in fringe websites and their own conviction. However, this spectacle is absurd, as the United States already had a fight against a monarch, George III of Great Britain, in the late 18th century. The American Revolution was a fundamental rejection of inherited power, and the Constitution is a monument to mistrust of centralized authority. The phantom King persists in the imagination of questionable characters due to the seductive simplicity of the secret narrative.
