The prophet Daniel states that GOD removes kings and sets up kings All power on earth is subject to divine authority. DAN 2.The Apostle Paul writes, For there is NO AUTHORITY except from GOD, All governing authorities hold their power only by GOD’s permission and sanction. ROM 13.After HIS resurrection, Yeshua tells HIS disciples, “All authority in Heaven and on earth has been given to ME” MAT 28. GOD the Father gave Yeshua ALL power and authority, which surpasses any earthly dominion.
CH 14: The oracle against Babylon continues from CH 13 (remember no breaks in the original). Isaiah gives a song against the fallen king of Babylon, mocking his pride and ambition. This passage includes the fall of Lucifer from Heaven. It ends with a brief prophecy concerning the defeat of Assyria.
CH 15-16 detail the destruction of Moab. Isaiah describes a vivid picture of Moab's people fleeing, their land laid waste, and their pride brought low.We pick it up in CH 15 and we will get through 16 as well, fairly short CH’s and 15-16 deal with Moab.
The founder of the Moabites was the son born of or from the incestuous relationship between Lot and his eldest daughter, when his daughters got Lot drunk, after the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. The Moabites settled in the plains to the south-east of Israel, in what is modern-day Jordan and they were enemies of Israel. It was Balak, king of Moab, who hired Balaam the prophet, hoping that he could curse Israel (NUM 22-25).
It was Balak, king of Moab, who hired Balaam the prophet, hoping that he could curse Israel (NUM 22-25).They were related to Israel because Lot was Abraham’s nephew. GO said Lot was a righteous man (2 PET 2).Because of this, GOD told Israel in DEU 2:9 that they were not to destroy Moab and take their land.
David, Israel’s greatest king, was one-quarter Moabite. His grandmother Ruth was from Moab. She marries Boaz, Boaz fathers Obed, Obed fathers Jesse, Jesse fathers David. For these reasons, there is a great deal of sadness and empathy on Isaiah’s part as he describes the coming judgment on Moab. Some say Isaiah is being sarcastic in his sorrow for Moab.
Moab’s grief is great, the whole nation mourns. From one town to another the cry is taken up; even soldiers turn to weeping.Dibon was north of the Arnon; Nebo was further north still. Isaiah names these places to show the widespread sorrow and mourning.
