Jeremiah 34-36: Zedekiah’s Captivity, Rechabite Faithfulness, and Jehoiakim’s Rejection of God's Word.
Jeremiah 34-36 prophesies the fall of Jerusalem to Babylon and the captivity of King Zedekiah, who breaks a covenant to free Hebrew servants, profaning God's name. The Rechabites exemplify faithful obedience by refusing wine as commanded by their ancestor, contrasting Judah's disobedience. King Jehoiakim rejects God's word by burning Jeremiah's scroll, showing contempt for divine instruction. God commands Jeremiah to rewrite the scroll and declares Jehoiakim's line will lose the throne of David, fulfilled historically as Jesus' lineage comes through another branch. The chapters highlight God's judgment on disobedience and the preservation of a faithful remnant.
