Walther's Forgotten Middle Child

I did it! I made it through and entire Walther video with out refencing James Bond, 007, Ian Fleming or any Bond media at all. Its the small victories...

The Walther Q4 released shortly after the Q5 but the Q4 has not performed as well as the Q5. The Q5 is a 5 inch, 42 ounce behemoth that always seems to stun when it comes out of the safe or case. the Q4 should have by all right performed the same. It was just a shorter version with the fame heavy frame and great trigger. But the Q5 has been six times more popular in our experience. Part of the problem for the Q4 could have been timing. Only a year after the Q5 the Q4 dropped, then the next year, the excellent PDP dropped. The PDP immediately became the bell of the ball for media and got a lot of attention. To start from the top, the Q4 is an outgrowth of the PPQ, which was it's self an update of the P99, the gun that saved that saved Walther. The goal of the Q5 and Q4 was quite simple. To elevate the PPQ to a match and competition beast. Other companies were doing this to great success. Beretta had just launched the Performance 92, Sig Sauer had always had the X226, and 2011 style guns were gaining in popularity. Even more evidence of this trend showed up when Smith and Wesson released the M&P Competitor, and Sig Sauer brought out the AGX frame for the P320. But the Q4 seemed to have lagged and not gained as much notice as the Q4. And now that the Q line is pretty much dead with the launch of the all steel PDP match platforms from Walther, the Q4 may be destined to be the neglected by Walther, and purchasers.
