In Exodus 20:1, God commands the Israelites to be holy and not to worship other gods. They are to not make graven images of anything in heaven, earth, or water, and not bow down to them. The LORD is jealous and will punish those who do not love him and keep his commandments. The Israelites are also to remember the sabbath day and not to do any work for six days. The seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD, and the Israelites are to honor their father and mother, not to kill, commit adultery, steal, bear false witness against neighbors, or covet their neighbor's house. These laws are laws of God's making and are orders by the infinite eternal Majesty of heaven and earth. God speaks to the children of men in various ways, and these laws were given to them in the beginning and later.
