April 3, 2022. The second victim is found in a park. While the pattern seems different, experts begin to suspect there might be a link between the crimes. The city starts to feel the fear, but the residents cling to the belief that the culprits are out of their reach.
During this time, Emma Hale, a 16-year-old girl, appears to be one of the few who isn't affected by the murders. Smart and perceptive, she remains calm and serene. In her daily life, Emma leads a normal existence: school, parents who adore her, friends with whom she shares laughs and secrets. No one suspects there’s something much darker behind her eyes.
May 12, 2022. The third murder occurs, much more brutal than the previous ones. Authorities start to notice more evident patterns, but the killer continues to elude capture. As the tension in the city grows, Emma becomes a central figure. Her interest in psychology and psychiatry, fields in which she excels, draws the attention of everyone. Her ability to read people, to understand their emotions and behaviors, seems to be her greatest strength.
But as the murders multiply, something in the city begins to change. Neighbors, friends, even Emma’s own parents, start feeling more and more uncomfortable around her. In her eyes, there are glimmers of something unknown, something they can't quite grasp.
July 16, 2022. The seventh murder happens inside a psychiatric office. No one knows what's going on, but the police find themselves caught between suspicions and false leads. Investigators start questioning the closest connections of the victims, but as they progress, everyone seems to be a piece in a puzzle that just doesn’t fit.
September 29, 2022. A new victim is found, and the police finally make a discovery: all the victims have had some sort of relationship with mental health, whether as patients, doctors, therapists, or psychologists. But this, rather than clarifying the case, only deepens the confusion. No one seems to understand what’s happening, and fear spreads like ink blotting paper.
Meanwhile, Emma continues her life, seemingly oblivious to the chaos around her, though something seems to have activated in her mind. Every day, she delves deeper into the study of human behavior, trying to understand the limits of the mind, pain, and revenge. Her heart continues to beat steadily as fear spreads across the city.
December 22, 2022. On Christmas Eve, the final murder happens. This one will be the most shocking, the most surprising. The clues point to someone close, but the police still can’t find the connection. The killer has left his mark, but remains in the shadows, perfect in his ability to deceive.
Time moves on, the pieces of the puzzle don’t fit, and the killer continues playing with them, like an invisible puppeteer. Riverside will never be the same, and when it all seems to be coming to an end, the last piece of this deadly game is revealed. Or maybe, it’s just the beginning.
