🚨✡️ Thousands of ultra-Orthodox Jews flood NYC to protest Israel’s military draft shake-up

Both leaders of the Satmar community — one of the most influential Hasidic Jewish sects in the world — urged their followers to join mass protests over Israel’s plan to end long-standing exemptions for religious students from mandatory military service.

Last year, Israel’s Supreme Court ruled that the government must start drafting ultra-Orthodox (Haredim) men, ending a policy in place since 1948.

👉 Facing acute manpower shortages post-October 7, Netanyahu seeks to draft around 10,500 Haredim to the IDF over the next two years.

However, the plan has ignited furious pushback on multiple fronts: from ultra-Orthodox leaders — who have traditionally rejected military service — and from secular and right-wingers within Likud, who decry the bill as too lenient.
