Asylum seekers given £300k homes rent free

Asylum seekers have been housed in brand-new £300,000 townhouses with en-suites, EV charging points, and underfloor heating in a Suffolk village.

The three-bed homes, worth £1,200 a month to rent, were leased to Serco by the Home Office to accommodate migrant families while their claims are processed.

The move comes as Labour pushes to close asylum hotels and shift migrants into private housing. Critics argue the secrecy around the plan has caused uproar, with over 800 locals waiting for social housing in the area.

Currently, 106,000 people receive asylum support in the UK, with 32,000 in hotels and 70,000 in private or shared accommodation.
