Someting Tonally Different

This graphite pencil drawing ‘Nude - 28-08-15’ is something totally different from what I normally am up to. Or is it? Last month’s drawing, called ‘Nude - 28-07-15’ already beared fruit, spawning this one. At least it’s different from all my artworks in the Roundism series. It’s ever evolving and lately I was taking some side steps and therefor looking for new executions. See what might bring me. This sort of cubism I forged turned out to look like stained glass to me. Not as fragmented as Nude - 28-07-15 though. Needless to say I’m just thinking spherically when it comes to finding a style to call my own. Consequently, I’m only trying out everything.

My Childhood’s Memories

Nude - 19-07-15 - 2 also looked very straight but there was more or a strict division between light and dark. Even chiaroscuro looking you could say. This time tonal values didn’t differ much and I sought for more harmony between all parts. Such proved to be complex. The reason is that tones of the same value adjacent to eachother simply would look like one big plane. The solution presented itself through my memory of my childhood. Involutarily I remembered Wim Stevenhagen’s and Gerrit de Jager’s cartoons. They formed this duo ‘Prutswerk’. Through him my love for hatching with graphite pencil and ink started to develop. As to this one: I used another of this duo’s technique. That is, never never let any value in a plane be the same compared to the adjacent one.

Model Dasha

The original photo could be a Playboy shoot but anyway shows Ukrainian model Dasha Astafieva. This is only 10 years after I discovered this. So I should thank both photographer and the model for being such a great inspirational source. By the way the shoot for Playboy Magazine is lovely.
