Speaker Johnson Holds News Conference on Day 22 of Shutdown
"This is now the second-longest government shutdown of any kind, ever in the history of our country, and it's just shameful," said House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) as he held a news conference on day 22 of a federal government shutdown. He was joined by House Republican leadership as well as the Natural Resources Committee and the Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies chairs, who discussed how the shutdown is impacting national parks. Additional topics included the construction of the White House ballroom, the proposal for the Justice Department to pay President Trump $230 million, and cuts to SNAP benefits.
