British officers sent to Israel to help monitor Gaza ceasefire

The UK has deployed a small team of planning officers, including a senior commander, to Israel to help monitor the Gaza ceasefire at the request of the US.

Defence Secretary John Healey said the UK will play an “anchor role” within the American-led Civil Military Coordination Centre (CMCC) alongside troops from Qatar, Egypt, Turkey, and the UAE, but will not lead operations or enter Gaza.

The deployment comes amid ongoing tensions, with Gaza’s media office reporting 80 Israeli violations of the truce and at least 80 Palestinian deaths since the ceasefire began, The Guardian has reported.

The UK emphasized it will contribute specialist expertise without taking a frontline role, while a separate international stabilisation force is planned to manage security inside Gaza if a UN-backed motion passes.

US Vice President JD Vance visited Israel to express optimism about the truce, describing it as “durable” and “going better than expected.”
