Program 4: SUNDAY NIGHT LIVE WITH FATHER BENEDICT GROESCHEL - St. Gianna Molla (2010).

Saint Gianna Beretta Molla (1922-1962) was an Italian pediatrician canonized in 2004, recognized for her heroic sacrifice. She was born in Magenta, Italy, and dedicated her professional life to medicine and helping those most in need, especially the elderly and children. She married Pietro Molla in 1956 and they had four children. As a wife and mother, she demonstrated that holiness is attainable in married life. In 1961, during her fourth pregnancy, she was diagnosed with a uterine fibroid. Doctors offered her a therapeutic abortion, but Gianna chose to save her daughter's life. She requested a less invasive surgery to preserve the pregnancy. She stated, “If you have to decide between my life and that of the child, don't hesitate: choose the child's. I demand that it be saved.” Gianna Emanuela, her daughter, was born healthy, but a week later, on April 28, 1962, Saint Gianna died of septic peritonitis. Her act is a powerful testimony to the unconditional value of life.
