The Covenant | Marriage Blessing and Flow | The Gate and the Bride Part 2
Holy Spirit gave me the word "Fealty". This word means a solemn vow of intense loyalty, faithfulness, and devotion to the Trinity of God the Father, Jesus the Son and The Holy Ghost. It involves a disciplined allegiance and an oath to be FAITHFUL, similar to the medieval pledge of fealty to a lord, but applied to a religious context. This commitment is a core aspect of many faiths, such as Christians swearing fealty to God.
Key aspects of spiritual fealty:
An oath of loyalty: At its heart, spiritual fealty is a promise of faithfulness and devotion.
Allegiance to a higher power: It is most often applied to the commitment individuals make to a deity, like God or Christ.
A disciplined commitment: It can be seen as a disciplined allegiance that requires self-discipline and resolution to stay on course, curbing impulsive desires.
Action and intent: This spiritual loyalty is not just a feeling but is demonstrated through actions, as seen in the biblical story of Abraham's willingness to obey God.
The covenant ceremony in Genesis 15 (discussed in this video):
The setting: After God reassures Abram that his descendants will be as numerous as the stars, Abram asks for a sign to know that he will inherit the promised land.
The ritual: Following God's instructions, Abram prepares for an ancient Near Eastern covenant ritual. He slaughters several animals, cuts them in two, and lays the halves opposite one another. In such ceremonies, the two parties making the covenant would walk between the pieces, declaring that a similar fate should befall them if they broke the agreement.
The divine manifestation: A "thick and dreadful darkness" falls upon Abram, and only a smoking firepot and a flaming torch pass between the animal pieces. Abram, having been put into a deep sleep, does not walk through them. This visual display is a theophany—a visible manifestation of God.
Symbolic meaning of the firepot and torch
God's presence: The firepot (often translated as a furnace or brazier) and torch together represent God's holy and powerful presence. This imagery recalls the pillars of cloud and fire that would later guide the Israelites during the Exodus.
Unilateral commitment: By walking between the halves alone, God takes the covenant curse upon himself. This signifies that the covenant's fulfillment rests entirely on God's character and faithfulness, not on Abram's. It is a binding, one-way promise from God.
Judgment and salvation: Interpreters often see the two elements representing two facets of God. The smoking firepot or furnace can symbolize judgment or affliction, foreshadowing the 400 years of enslavement Abram's descendants would endure in Egypt. The flaming torch represents God's purifying light and his guidance, signifying that he would deliver his people and lead them to the promised land.
