I Brought My American Aunt to Hanoi | She Couldn't Believe This Was Vietnam! 🇻🇳

Join us as we show Aunt Renata from Brooklyn, New York her very first time in Hanoi, Vietnam! 🇻🇳 We’ve lived in Vietnam for six years, so while we’re not locals, we have a unique perspective on the city. We’ve been to Hanoi many times, but this trip was extra special because it was Aunt Renata’s first experience here, with tourism back in full swing.

We start with a stroll through the Old Quarter, soaking in the bustling streets and vibrant culture. Then we walk around Hoan Kiem Lake, grabbing tickets for the famous Water Puppet Show (which we’ll see another time).

We checked out some of Hanoi’s best cafes, including Café Giang, one of the oldest cafes in Hanoi dating back to the 1940s and the birthplace of Vietnamese egg coffee, and Loading Tea & Coffee, trying a variety of egg coffees—some with rum, some with cinnamon, and even a coconut coffee—showing some of the most iconic and unique coffee spots in the city. Later, we head to Tay Ho (West Lake), the expat bubble, and enjoy a beautiful lakeside cafe view.

For dinner, we visited a highly reviewed Vietnamese restaurant. While it leaned towards catering to foreigners, the food was good, the service was excellent, and the staff were very nice. It was a bit overpriced compared to typical local spots in the Old Quarter, but still a pleasant experience.

From iconic cafes and serene lakes to bustling streets and cultural experiences, this video captures the first-time Hanoi experience of an American visitor.
