Videos show what led up to and followed the hate crime charges against Alexandra Szustakiewicz, 64, from Darien, Illinois. The incident took place November 16, 2024, at a Panera in Downers Grove. According to officials:

Szustakiewicz allegedly yelled expletives at a man wearing a sweatshirt with “Palestine” on it.
A woman recorded the encounter; Szustakiewicz is accused of trying to hit her phone out of her hands. The complaint says the confrontation involved perceived national origin (i.e. of the victims).

Following the incident, she was arrested without incident the next day; a judge ordered no contact with the victims and barred her from entering that Panera.

Viewer discretion advised — this video includes confrontation and arrest footage.
These moments don’t define a person.
Whether influenced by substances, struggling with mental illness, or just facing a bad day, what you see here isn’t the sum of their identity, its just a slice of time.
Everyone deserves to be treated with decency.
