Boeing 737-200, while landing at La Serena Airport , touched the runway with the right wingtip

In the final approach phase, the crew was maneuvering on course to align with the runway centerline but lost visual contact with the runway at an altitude below 500 feet due to sun glare. As a result, spatial disorientation occurred, and the pilots allowed the right wing to strike the runway surface. After that, a go-around was performed.

The investigation concluded that the main cause of the incident was crew errors—failure to follow standard visual approach procedures and delayed go-around execution during an unstable approach path.

Sun glare and weather conditions were recognized as contributing but not key factors.

Fortunately, none of the 115 passengers and 6 crew members were injured. 😇
