October 26, 2025 - Should Christians Participate in Halloween? - Pastor Shawn Hamm

This powerful message confronts us with an uncomfortable truth: Halloween is not the innocent cultural celebration many have come to accept, but rather a day deeply rooted in occult practices and demonic worship. Drawing from Romans 13:11-14, we're reminded that we are living in urgent times and must remove our dark deeds like dirty clothes, clothing ourselves instead with the presence of Jesus Christ. The message traces Halloween's origins back to the Celtic festival of Samhain, where sacrifices were made to the god of death, costumes were worn to disguise oneself from demons, and food offerings were given to appease evil spirits. What we see today in trick-or-treating, jack-o-lanterns, and costume parties are direct descendants of these pagan rituals. Scripture is unequivocal in passages like Deuteronomy 18:9-14 and Leviticus 20:27 that we are to have nothing to do with witchcraft, sorcery, or communication with the dead. The testimony of former witches confirms that Halloween remains the highest satanic day of the year, when demonic activity is most intense. We're challenged to ask ourselves: does Halloween bring us closer to Jesus or pull us away? Does it glorify God or grieve Him? The answer becomes clear when we honestly examine the fruit of this celebration. This isn't about fear or legalism, but about walking in the freedom and light Christ purchased for us, refusing to give the enemy even an inch of access to our lives and families.
