GIGOT: “Can be looked at the national gerrymandering fight when it all comes out all the states are done who is who’s goi come out ahead in terms of the number of seats picked up by these midterm gerrymandered?”

STRASSEL: “Well, this is a story that is not really getting as much attention. Yes as a bill said and you said the start in Texas. Democrats decide they’re going to escalate and turns to a national issue you had the Texas walkout, Gavin Newsom got involved. All that did was inspire Republicans to gear up as well and extend their gerrymandering commission to other states. You’ve got a lot more Republican states that are a lot less fully gerrymandered right now than democratic ones. Most of them are meeting and coming up with new seats here and there. I think at the end of the day they are going to end up with a lot more out of this reach then Democrats can because they have a ceiling in terms of what they can do. California is the biggest gain but they’re also boxing and a number of states like New York for instance. Very strict rules about the redistricting commission so when they are allowed to engage in this Republicans have a much more open field and you see it happening from Florida, to other places where they’re going to rev up this.”
