Boston police shot a naked man reportedly armed with a large knife after responding to a break-in call in Beacon Hill early Wednesday morning, officials said.
According to Boston Police Superintendent Paul McLaughlin, officers were dispatched just before 6 a.m. to 97 Mount Vernon Street — the location of the upscale restaurant 1928 Beacon Hill — after a 911 caller reported a burglary in progress.
When police arrived, they found a man in a back alley holding a large knife. McLaughlin said an officer first tried to subdue the suspect with a Taser, but it failed to stop him. Officers then fired their service weapons, injuring the man. They provided first aid at the scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
The man’s name and age have not been released. McLaughlin confirmed the suspect was unclothed and said investigators are still trying to determine his motive.
“There are clear signs he made it inside the property,” McLaughlin told reporters, adding that it’s too early to say how he entered or what damage, if any, occurred.
The incident remains under investigation. Police are asking anyone with information or video footage to contact the Homicide Unit at 617-343-4470 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-494-TIPS.
