LeBron James On Retirement: "I'm Not Waiting On Bryce; Our Timelines May Not Match."

At the 2025 NBA Media Day, LeBron James said his retirement plans are not tied to his son Bryce’s basketball career. James explained that while Bryce is just starting his journey as a freshman at the University of Arizona, he has his own timeline and goals. LeBron stressed that he won’t delay retirement in hopes of sharing the court with his younger son.

He noted that both he and Bryce are on separate paths, and there’s no guarantee their careers will overlap. Now entering his 23rd NBA season and turning 41 this December, James admitted that the end of his career is approaching. Still, he’s focused on the present and optimistic about the Lakers’ future as the team continues to build around him and Luka Dončić.
